The role of human access and environmental parameters in structuring lake communities

A new manuscript Human access and deterministic processes play a major role in structuring planktonic and sedimentary bacterial and eukaryotic communities in lakes led by John Pearman has been published in the journal PeerJ. The research explores microorganisms that live in the sediment and water of lakes and what are the key processes, e.g. nutrients, temperature that structure them and the influence of human access to a site. The study provides new insights into the distribution patterns of different biotic components and highlights the value in understanding the drivers of different biological communities within lakes.

Sampling for fish eDNA in lakes

Check out these new eDNA posters! eDNA is an ama Check out these new eDNA posters!

eDNA is an amazing new tool that can help us understand and protect the taiao (environment) - but it can't do everything. It needs to be used to complement other techniques and aligned with Indigenous and local knowledge. These new posters highlight these benefits and provide suggestions on some questions to ask before launching into an eDNA based project!

When working with eDNA projects we like to co-design the project with our partners. We also love sharing our knowledge and helping train the next generation of scientists to become sentinels of the taiao.
